Initial dialogue on project development Minimize

You are reading this because you have a project idea you would like to realize and has been considering whether you can receive funding from the EU for this purpose.

Before you begin to describe your project idea more detailed you should know the following about EU projects:

  • There must be a level of innovative elements
(i.e. a new product, a new process or method, new research, new approaches, new forms of cooperation or a solving of new problems)

  • It must be relevant to cooperate with foreign partners
(there are specific rules for research and product development about rights to new knowledge but willingness to involvement of Danish and foreign partners and experts is necessary)
  • Typically a long-term development process should exist , where you do not know all the answers in advance (most EU projects run over 2-3 years)
  • There is almost always involved an element of co-financing of project costs
(assistance amounts to between 30-80% depending on the activities and mechanisms)
  • A lot of patience is necessary
(the process can easily be up to 9 months from the first contact is made, to actual answers upon request)
  • The effect of the project must be European
This  means that there is generally not given EU funding to very locally based projects as well as capital expenditure to infrastructure and cost of constructions in the programs which SDEO is cooperating within in connection to EU projects. (The rationale behind this criterion is that the benefits created as a result of construction projects and investment in equipment only benefits a narrow group of users.)

If you recognize all the above criteria’s, please describe your project the best possible way based on the following 6 questions.

1. Project idea and purpose
What is the background of the project? Can you describe some of the indicators and ideas forming the background of your problem? Is there a very specific challenge or problem that must be dealt with? Which are the overall goals of the project? What will the project benefit be?

2. Innovation
What is new about the project? How does the product stand out from already existing procedures/ service / method?

3. Activities and methods
What kind of activities do you think the project must go through? I.e. literature study, development stages, testing stages, recommendations, etc. Can you say something about what kinds of methods used in the project? Is it a matter of clinical research, basic research, demonstration projects, action research, analysis, skills development, strategy development or something similar.

4. The effect and value
Who is the project's target group and to whom are the results of the project important? Where is the project estimated to have an immediate and long-term effect? At local, regional, national or European level? To gain European support it MUST be possible for other operators in Europe to use the results - is this possible?

5. Partnership
Do you and the organization you work for possess the experience of other international collaborative projects? Why is it just you and / or the organization you work for, who must implement this project - which core competences within the area of the project dealing with do you possess? What other skills and what kind of partners do you think that you will work with to achieve the results of the project? Do you already know partners from other EU countries that you wish to work with?

6. Time perspective and economy
Is there a particular time period to take into account in relating to other activities? How long do you think the project will last? Do you currently have an idea about the project's economic scale? Are you able to finance a part of the project costs yourself?
