The Region of Southern Denmark is a centrally located and dynamic region.Its geographical location
is convenient, not only for access to the rest of Denmark, but also to Germany – Denmark’s largest
trading partner – and the rest of Europe.
The Region of Southern Denmark covers a geographic area stretching from approximately 40 km north of Vejle in the north to Padborg in the south, and from Esbjerg in the west to Nyborg in the east.
Southern Denmark is home to one of Scandinavia’s largest and most modern hospitals, the Odense University Hospital, whose specialisms include heart and coronary diseases, cancer and limb replantations. Denmark’s third largest university – the University of Southern Denmark – is also based in the region with campuses in Esbjerg, Kolding, Odense, Sønderborg,Copenhagen and Slagelse.
A number of Southern Denmark’s companies and enterprises are world-renowned: Danfoss
in Nordborg, Ecco Shoes Danmark in Tønder, Gumlink in Vejle, LEGO in Billund, Lindø in Munkebo and the offshore industry in Esbjerg. With a workforce of 25,000 people, the Region of Southern Denmark is the largest employer in the region.
